Do I need to be flexible to practise Yoga?

Absolutely not! Anyone can practise Yoga whether they are already flexible or haven’t touched their toes in years!

Beyond Physical Postures

However, it’s easy to be misled by the images of Yoga that we see most of the time on social media or in the press. These channels only tend to focus on young people practising challenging postures that make for aesthetically pleasing images! If your body can do these things safely and you are gaining something useful from them, that’s great for you but for the rest of us there are plenty of options within the Yoga toolkit.

Tailoring Your Yoga Practice to You

For starters, postures are just a small, although often useful, part of the story. Yoga has so much more to offer if we want to improve the quality of our lives. The range of techniques includes breathwork, meditation, use of sound, diet, study and general advice on how we can live better in the world in which we find ourselves! Within these tools there is always something we can use, whether we are already flexible or not! The key is that Yoga should be tailored to the individual so you need to find a practice, and a teacher, that works just for you.

If you want to live better why not give Yoga a go and see what it can do for you!
